Updated Environmental & Social Criteria for EPEAT Computers and Displays

In a recent webinar, the Green Electronics Council (GEC) announced that EPEAT (Electronic Product Environmental Assessment Tool) certification criteria has been updated for computers and displays. But what does this mean for procurement?

The update includes an increased focus on priority impacts including climate change, chemicals and resource consumption; expanded sustainability attributes, with the inclusion of social impact criteria; and a greater emphasis on supply chain transparency and impacts.

With the certification requirements raised, the GEC recommends purchasers use the following language in their bid documents to support green electronic purchasing: “All desktops, laptops, and computer monitors provided under this contract are required to have achieved Bronze registration or higher in the EPEAT system”.
